Are you using the right foundation for your skin type? Believe it or not, that is a very valid question that not many people know the answer to. Let me explain…
There are a variety of foundations that you can mix and match, as needed. Some are better for one skin type over the next. Today, I will go over these types, and show you the pros and cons of each.
Different Types of Foundation
- Cream – best for dry skin as it tends to get dewy after a few hours. Also good for full coverage and events where you want your makeup to not budge. These need to be properly set by powder so you don’t look like a grease pan. Cream foundations are my go-to’s for bridal clients and those who need full coverage makeup. My favorite cream foundation is by RCMA – however, you can find these in commercial cosmetic brands as well.
- Liquid – very versatile, it works for all skin types. I use this on the go for myself, when I have to attend events or even as a daily pick me up. Liquid foundations come in all shapes and types – whether you have dry, oily or combination skin, there’s one out there for you. For my clients, I prefer to use CoverFX. For myself, I use MAC’s studio fix fluid.
- Powder – best for oily skin or those that want hours of matte coverage. If you’re prone to shine through within a few minutes of applying your makeup, then powder may be your best bet. Most powder foundations have a cream texture that finishes into a powder. My favorite is from Makeup Forever.
- Airbrush – hands down, my favorite foundation for my brides and clients. It works for all skin types, although I go easy on the spray with my oily skin clients. It gives a sheen look that does not budge once dried. My favorite is Temptu’s Silicone-Based airbrush foundation for my professional kit; however, Temptu also makes airbrush that is easy-to-use for non-professionals. Go on, and give airbrush a try!
- Mineral powder – best for those interested in minimal coverage. If you have great skin or are not a fan of makeup, then mineral powder is for you. It is loose powder than can go on with a brush or a sponge. Good for all skin types, just be careful with the amount when using on dry skin. Bare Minerals makes some of the best mineral powder foundations.
