Face it, ladies, applying eyeshadow is an art that just about anyone can master. Eyeshadow mistakes are also an art that just about anyone can master, and learn from. We all make mistakes, especially when it comes to applying our makeup. Today, I’m going to talk about some of the biggest eyeshadow mistakes and how the heck we fix them.
Mistakes
- Shadow Fallout – believe it or not, this is a novice mistake, that even happened to me when I was new to applying eyeshadow. The biggest culprit is that you try to pile on too much eyeshadow on your brush at once. Because of this, the extra eyeshadow has no more space to stick to on your skin, and tends to fall out.
Fix – Layer it up. Instead of packing on eyeshadow all at once, do it in multiple steps. This allows a small amount of shadow applied each time, resulting in no fallout.
- Creased Eyelids – the majority of the reason this occurs is the absence of eyeshadow primer. Primer smooths out the skin, and gives shadow something to stick to, without settling into naked skin.
Fix – Add eyeshadow primer, and follow up immediately with eyeshadow.
- Harsh Lines – this tends to happen when there’s not enough blending. The key to applying eyeshadow is to know how to blend so that when you are using 2 or more colors, they blend seamlessly to create the perfect painting.
Fix – Use several different blending brushes (I like the dome-shaped with soft bristles) to get the blend factor that works for you.
- Not Wearing Eyeliner – once your eyeshadow is applied, don’t skimp out on eyeliner. You don’t have to be perfect at applying liner, there are many types of liners available for all experience levels. Without liner, your eye looks incomplete.
Fix – if you’re not comfortable with applying eyeliner, take an angled brush, dip in some dark eyeshadow, and apply softly along your lash line. This will complete your look without going over the top.
See? Anyone can become an eyeshadow expert if the right tools and advice are available.
