Gone are the days where your concealer is several shades lighter than your foundation color. Nowadays, less is more and actually matching your skin tone works best.
So, what exactly does a concealer do, anyway? Concealer is slightly thicker than foundation, which helps with the less is more concept. Concealer is just…concealing! Any imperfections, discolorations, etc can be concealed. Got sun freckles? Conceal them! How about thin skin under your eyes showcases your dark veins? Conceal them!
The following are my thoughts on choosing the correct concealer color:
Skin Tone – I mentioned this already but essentially your concealer should match your skin tone and foundation to give you a seamless look, where you can’t tell where one product ends or begins.
Color Corrector – when you have dark circles or pigmentation issues, color correct first. Then, stipple over with your concealer. Note that here, it is extremely important to not use a lighter color concealer as this will highlight the area.
Natural Lighting – as you go to any makeup counter in a retail setting, ever notice how there are artificial lights everywhere? Granted it’s to keep you from bumping into objects, but on the other hand, with bright lights, the concealer that you match to your skin tone indoors will likely not look the same once you go outdoors. I’ve seen this occur many times, even on myself during my early years. Sometimes it’s not even about the color, it is the amount of product that you apply.
Life is not always easy – but choosing the perfect concealer should be an easy enough task!
